Short Inca Trail with Camping – 2 Days: The Glamping Experience
Experience a unique adventure along the Inca Trail with this Short Inca Trail Camping tour, combining a scenic hike with a memorable glamping experience in the Andes. This journey allows travelers to explore the most beautiful section of the ancient trail while enjoying a night under the stars surrounded by the stunning cloud forest.
During the trek, visitors discover important Inca sites such as Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna, before reaching Inti Punku for the first spectacular view of Machu Picchu.
Itinerary at a Glance:
- Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna – Inca Trail Campsite. Train journey to Km 104 to start the hike, visiting Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna before arriving at the campsite for a glamping experience.
- Day 2: Campsite – Inti Punku – Machu Picchu – Cusco. Early hike to the Sun Gate for sunrise views of Machu Picchu, followed by a guided tour and return to Cusco.
Itinerary
We pick you up from your hotel in Cusco (approx. 4:00 AM) or the Sacred Valley and drive to the Ollantaytambo train station. We board the early train (6:10 or 6:40 AM) for a scenic ride along the Urubamba River until we reach Kilometer 104. Here, you will meet your dedicated trekking chef and porters. Before starting, you will enjoy a hot, freshly prepared breakfast right at the trailhead—a luxury exclusive to our service.
After breakfast, we begin the hike visiting Chachabamba, an ancient Inca altar. We continue uphill for about 3 hours, witnessing waterfalls and orchids, until we reach the magnificent terraces of Wiñay Wayna. Here, we stop for a gourmet buffet lunch prepared by our chef.
In the afternoon, we hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) to get our first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. After taking photos, we take the bus down to our exclusive campsite at Puente Ruinas (near Aguas Calientes). You will arrive to find your tents set up, hot water for washing, and a "Happy Hour" with tea and snacks waiting for you. The day ends with a delicious dinner under the stars.

You will wake up to the sound of nature and a hot cup of coffee delivered to your tent. Our chef will prepare a nutritious breakfast to fuel you for the day. We then take a short walk to the bus station and head up to the citadel.
You will have a 2-hour private guided tour of Machu Picchu, exploring the main temples and learning about the history of the Incas. After the tour, you will have free time to explore on your own or hike Huayna Picchu (if booked in advance). Finally, we return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (on your own) and take the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private van transfer to your hotel in Cusco, arriving around 8:00 PM.

- Briefing: The night preceding your trek, attend a briefing at Cams Travel Perú’ office or your hotel. Receive your duffel bag, restricted to 7kg/14 lbs., included your sleeping bag and air mattress for the duration.
- Permits: Upon receiving your details and deposit, Cams Travel Perú secures your permits, pending availability. These date-specific permits, issued in your name, cannot be altered once confirmed. Passport number updates are the only allowable changes. The permit encompasses entry to Machu Picchu.
- Transportation: Enjoy inclusive transportation, with pick-up from your hotel around 4 a.m. (unless staying in Ollantaytambo) to commence your trek at KM 82. Expedition Train from Aguas Calientes is also included, with an optional upgrade to the Vistadome Train for $75 per person. A team member will escort you back to your Cusco hotel from the train station. Your round-trip bus ticket from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu is part of the package.

- Porters: Cams Travel Perú includes a personal porter, responsible for your duffel bag. No additional fee is charged, and you won’t access your duffel bag until reaching the evening campsite.
- Food: Chefs craft delightful meals accommodating various dietary restrictions. Specify any restrictions on your booking form and inform your guide at the briefing. Meals are typically served family-style, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, along with a happy hour of tea and snacks. Morning snacks are provided during the hike. The final meal with your chef occurs after breakfast on day four, excluding lunch on the last day.
- Equipment: Cams Travel Perú provides top-notch equipment, featuring Eureka Timberline 4-person tents shared by two people. A spacious dining tent enhances meal enjoyment.
- Water: We ensures a sufficient water supply, boiled, filtered, and cooled from your first lunch to your last breakfast. Bring personal water bottles or a camelback, with a recommended capacity of about 3L, refillable at each meal.
- First Aid: Cams Travel Perú guides undergo first aid training from a physician, attending mandatory sessions annually. Equipped with a first-aid kit for basic medical situations and oxygen, your guide prioritizes your well-being, swiftly addressing any necessary interventions and facilitating prompt clinic visits.
- Extras: We focuses on small details, providing every trekker with a pillow for sleeping, a foam mattress for insulation, a day pack cover for hiking gear protection, and a rain poncho. Elevate your vacation with our commitment to excellence.

Essential camping gear is available for every trekker. While a sleeping bag is a must, optional yet recommended items like inflatable air mattresses and walking sticks (with rubber tips) can enhance your experience. - Huayna Picchu
Adjacent to Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu is a mountain offering a 45-minute ascent to the summit. The descent is steep and may be challenging for those with a fear of heights. This experience follows your Machu Picchu tour and costs $75. Due to its popularity, arrangements should be made at least one or two month in advance. Please note that weather conditions are beyond our control.

Vistadome Train
While our tours include the Expedition Train, you can opt for the Vistadome Train, an upgraded experience with slightly larger seats, windows, and entertainment. Typically booked for a 15:20pm departure to Ollantaytambo, our driver will meet you, drive you back to the city on our van, and drop you off at your hotel.
The Vistadome Train upgrade is $75 per person.
Huayna Picchu
Huayna Picchu, the mountain adjacent to Machu Picchu, offers a 45-minute hike to the summit. Even if you choose to trek independently, your guide will guide you to the trail entrance. This trek requires an additional entrance ticket, which we can secure for you with advance notice.
Tickets are timed for the First Session (7-8 AM) or Second Session (10-11 AM). We purchase the Second Session for you, allowing you to enjoy your Machu Picchu tour before beginning the Huayna Picchu trek. This time window is only for your start time, providing flexibility for your ascent and descent.
The ticket cost is $75 per person.
Machu Picchu Mountain
Machu Picchu Mountain, towering above the Machu Picchu ruins, promises even more breathtaking views than Huayna Picchu but entails a 1.5-hour journey to the top. This trek requires an additional entrance ticket, which we can secure for you.
