Itinerary
- Your journey begins in the morning with hotel pick-up in Cusco. From there, you’ll travel toward the legendary Sacred Valley, enjoying panoramic views of the Andes as the landscape opens into fertile valleys framed by towering mountains.
- The first stop is Chinchero, often referred to as the “Land of the Rainbow.” This traditional Andean village is renowned for its vibrant textile heritage and its colonial church built atop solid Inca stone foundations. Here, you’ll learn about ancient weaving techniques, natural dye extraction from plants and minerals, and the cultural symbolism woven into each handmade textile—traditions that continue to be preserved by local families.
- Next, you’ll visit the remarkable circular terraces of Moray, believed to have functioned as an Inca agricultural experimentation center. The unique design of these concentric terraces creates distinct microclimates at different levels, demonstrating the Incas’ sophisticated understanding of crop adaptation and environmental science.
- The journey continues to the striking Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt pools cascade dramatically down the mountainside. These pre-Inca salt pans are still harvested today by local families using ancestral techniques passed down through generations. The geometric patterns of white salt against the earth-toned valley create a truly unforgettable landscape and exceptional photo opportunities.
- Midday, you will enjoy a high-quality buffet lunch in Urubamba, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. The buffet features a variety of Peruvian specialties and international options, offering a relaxing break before continuing the exploration.
- In the afternoon, you’ll explore Ollantaytambo, one of the most impressive surviving examples of Inca urban planning. Its massive fortress and temple complex once served as a strategic military, religious, and agricultural center. As you climb its terraces and stone stairways, you’ll admire the precision of its construction and panoramic views over the valley. You’ll also walk through original Inca streets that are still inhabited today, making Ollantaytambo one of the few remaining living Inca towns.
- The final stop is Pisac, famous for its extensive agricultural terraces carved high into the mountainside and its commanding views of the valley below. Depending on timing, you may also visit the traditional artisan market, where local crafts and souvenirs reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage.
- After a full day immersed in Inca history, engineering, and living traditions, you will return to Cusco in the evening, concluding an enriching and comprehensive exploration of the Sacred Valley.
