Itinerary
- Your adventure begins early in the morning with pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. Traveling south in comfortable tourist transportation, you’ll journey through picturesque Andean valleys dotted with traditional farming communities. Along the way, you’ll observe ancient agricultural terraces still in use today, herds of alpacas and llamas grazing across the high plains, and dramatic mountain scenery that gradually rises in altitude as you approach the rainbow-colored landscapes.
- A stop is made at a countryside restaurant where you will enjoy a nourishing local breakfast, giving you time to rest and prepare for the high-altitude experience ahead. After breakfast, the journey continues deeper into the Andes toward Palcoyo Mountain.
- Upon arrival at the trailhead, located at approximately 4,900 meters (16,076 ft) above sea level, you will begin a gentle hike lasting around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Unlike more demanding mountain treks, this route is gradual and less steep, allowing you to walk at a comfortable pace while fully appreciating the scenery. During the hike, you’ll encounter three vibrant rainbow-colored mountains, sweeping panoramic viewpoints of the Andes, the striking Red Valley landscapes, and unique stone forest formations that add a dramatic touch to the terrain. Throughout the walk, your guide will explain the geological processes that created the mineral-striped mountains as well as the cultural importance of this highland region to local Andean communities.
- Once at the main viewpoints, you will have free time to explore, take photographs, and immerse yourself in the extraordinary natural beauty that surrounds you. The open vistas, crisp mountain air, and colorful ridges create a truly memorable high-altitude experience.
