Itinerary
Our adventure begins early with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco (approx. 4:00 AM) or the Sacred Valley. We travel by private van to the Ollantaytambo train station (1.5 hours) to board the train. The scenic 1-hour train ride takes us along the Urubamba River until we reach Kilometer 104, the official trailhead of the Short Inca Trail.
After passing the checkpoint, our hike begins with a visit to Chachabamba, an ancient stone altar used by the Incas to worship the sun and mountains. From here, we begin a gradual climb into the Cloud Forest, surrounded by orchids, bromeliads, and tree ferns. After about 3 hours of hiking, we reach a beautiful waterfall (seasonal) before arriving at the spectacular ruins of Wiñay Wayna (2,650m). Your guide will explain the history of these stunning agricultural terraces while you enjoy a delicious boxed lunch amidst the mountains.
In the afternoon, we continue towards the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Climbing the final stone steps, you will be rewarded with your first breathtaking panoramic view of Machu Picchu. After taking photos and enjoying the sunset views over the citadel, we descend to the main entrance and take a bus down to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Here, we check into your hotel, have dinner at a local restaurant, and rest for the next day.
